About Cornell University Hospital for Animals

Cornell University Hospital for Animals is a world-class veterinary clinical unit within the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), providing primary and specialty care to animals 24/7, 365 days a year. Our hospital is composed of six diverse clinical units, led by internationally renowned board-certified veterinary specialists, and offers advanced diagnostic and therapeutic care. As a teaching hospital, we also provide training and education to veterinary students, interns, and residents.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our Small Animal team. As an LVT at Cornell University Hospital for Animals, you will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, utilizing your technical skills to provide exceptional patient care and support to our clients. This is an excellent opportunity for new graduates to start their careers and for experienced LVTs to take their skills to the next level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality patient care according to hospital protocols and clinician orders
  • Perform phlebotomy, intravenous and urinary catheter placement, and administer medication accurately
  • Monitor patients recovering from anesthesia and following surgical or diagnostic procedures
  • Operate various monitoring equipment, such as pulse oximetry, ECG, and non-invasive blood pressure monitors
  • Advise, guide, and support DVM students throughout your shift
  • Continue to develop basic and advanced clinical skills
  • Work effectively with a diverse range of people, including veterinarians, veterinary students, and clients

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an AVMA-accredited institution
  • Expected to obtain NYS licensure within 3 months
  • Up to 1 year of relevant experience or equivalent combination
  • New graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Desire and willingness to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a veterinary teaching hospital or research setting
  • Basic and advanced clinical skills in small animal care
  • Familiarity with veterinary medical terminology and hospital software systems
