Our technology organization is seeking a Chief Data Officer to join our growing team in Worcester, MA Corporate Headquarters, or remote work location consideration. Position Summary The Chief Data Officer (CDO) is a strategic senior leader responsible for defining and driving Hanover’s enterprise data strategy and governance. Reporting to the EVP, Chief Technology & Innovation Officer, the CDO sets the vision for how data is collected, governed, and leveraged to create competitive advantage and fuel innovation. This role collaborates with other leaders in the organization to ensure our data is accurate, accessible, secure and actionable within a defined data taxonomy that enables advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and cross-functional collaboration. As a key member of the technology leadership team, the CDO influences enterprise-wide decision-making and continues the advancement of the company’s Data Culture. By collaborating with the different business-led D&A teams, the CDO will drive the data standardization and governance to strengthen the organizational capability. Through trusted and collaborative relationships and purposeful engagement, the CDO inspires others and leads through influence to create meaningful impact. This is a Full-time, Exempt role.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and enforce a comprehensive governance framework, including policies for data quality, security, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
  • Break down organizational and technical data silos to enable easy data access and business insights needed in the ever-changing P&C industry through the establishment of a defined data taxonomy.
  • Enable the building and maintenance of a modern data eco-system that supports advanced analytics, AI, and machine learning while ensuring compliant standards of data usage.
  • Attract, coach, and develop a talented, diverse team while strengthening organizational capability and team dynamics.
  • Lead through influence by building trusted and collaborative relationships with leaders and teams across the enterprise, inspiring strategy aligned work, and engaging stakeholders with purpose and clarity.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership, influencing resource allocation, technology investments, and business priorities through data insights.
  • Represent Hanover in industry forums, regulatory discussions, and data innovation partnerships to shape external perceptions and stay ahead of emerging trends.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in data strategy, governance, analytics, or related fields, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the Property & Casualty insurance lifecycle, with a clear understanding of how data enables measurement, insight and achievement of critical key performance indicators and business outcomes.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Proven track record of leading enterprise-wide data transformation initiatives across a matrixed organization.
  • Deep expertise in data governance, privacy, and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of emerging technologies including AI, machine learning, and cloud data platforms.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Experience working with executive leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s or advanced degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Successful implementation of an enterprise-wide data strategy aligned with business strategies and objectives.
  • Measurable improvements in data quality, accessibility, and governance compliance.
  • Increased adoption of data-driven decision-making across business units.
  • Reduction in data silos and improved cross-functional collaboration.
  • Enablement of AI and advanced analytics initiatives with secure and scalable data infrastructure.
