About the position The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability strives to create a future when humans and nature thrive in concert and in perpetuity. The school is made up of a three-part structure to drive global impact: Our academic departments and programs educate students and create new knowledge across areas of research that are crucial for advancing the long-term prosperity of the planet and people; Institutes bridge scholarship at Stanford and beyond, bringing multiple viewpoints to bear on urgent challenges; The Sustainability Accelerator drives new policy and technology solutions through a worldwide network of partners who work with our teams to develop solutions at a global scale. The school is dedicated to creating and supporting a community with the richness of experience and background needed to create solutions that benefit all people, particularly those most affected by environmental damage and climate change. The Stanford Sustainable Mobility Center (SMC) is a new holistic and integrated center that brings together faculty and researchers from all across the Stanford community to work hand-in-hand with key stakeholders from across the global mobility ecosystem. The mission of the Stanford Sustainable Mobility Center is to conduct research and analysis on sustainable mobility across five main research pillars: sustainable energy systems, sustainable infrastructure, safety, economic viability, and sustainable design. By integrating the principles of equity, decarbonization, safety, and resilience, SMC's aim is to envision a future of sustainable mobility characterized by improved accessibility, enhanced energy efficiency, and economic development leading to more livable and sustainable communities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead an effort to create a well-defined research, educational and convening programs at Stanford to help address mid-to-long term challenges and opportunities in the global mobility ecosystem.
  • Translate Stanford activities into real-world impact for the global mobility ecosystem.
  • Lead strategic planning and analysis for complex university functions or programs with significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges.
  • Act as the subject matter expert regarding the interpretation, implementation and compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Represent the program or function at the university level and/or to external constituencies.
  • Direct and manage outreach strategy that may include relationship development, communications, and compliance.
  • Oversee or supervise staff in the development and implementation of functions or programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and ten years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies across multiple organizational boundaries.
  • Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions using good business judgment and innovative problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial, organizational and staff resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships.
  • Relevant subject matter expertise.
  • Strong project planning and management skills.
  • Experience in or knowledge of business process improvement methodology.
  • Ability to act independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety.

  • Significant and Diverse Experience and Expertise in the Mobility Sector.
  • Significant Data Science/Advanced Computational Modeling/Machine Learning/Big Data Analytics Experience and Expertise.
  • Strong Organizational and Management Experience and Skills.
