Supplier Quality Engineer II

Daimler Truck North America is a leading company in the commercial vehicle industry, and they are seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer II to lead supplier performance and ensure quality powertrain components. The role involves managing supplier technical issues, conducting audits, and improving supplier quality KPIs, while also interfacing with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the supplier to ensure supplier performance is regularly reported and that appropriate and timely corrective actions are implemented
  • Manage timely resolution of supplier technical issues to ensure uninterrupted supply to production
  • Strategically lead supplier performance improvement projects in an effort to increase the supplier capability of consistently meeting customer existing or new requirements
  • Documents activities related to investigation, disposition, and resolution to quality complaints
  • Conduct supplier audits to confirm product conformity, or drive process standardization, waste elimination, and continuous improvement
  • Monitor, communicate and improve key supplier quality KPI’s, including DPPM, Quality Complaints, and capacity to support OTS (On Time Ship) compliance
  • Lead or support effort to establish specific short / long-term supplier quality goals
  • Champion problem solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers and customers to eliminate recurrence of non-conformances
  • Work to resolve supplier technical issues in a timely manner to ensure continuity of supply
  • Interface and support cross functional business units on topics relating to supplier quality
  • Oversee containment actions at the supplier to mitigate the impact of quality issues to Daimler
  • Domestic and international travel (expected 30-50%)

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with 1 year of related experience OR 5 years of related experience required
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present complex technical topics during meetings with suppliers and Daimler management
  • Knowledge of GD&T and MSA
  • Ability to understand metallurgical requirements and interpret reports
  • Strong problem solving skills and a solution-focused mindset
  • Understanding of quality problem solving tools such as 8D, 5-why, fishbone, etc
  • A customer-focused mindset with the ability to understand and address customer needs and expectations related to supplier quality topics
  • Project management experience
  • Statistical process control experience
  • Familiarity with Engine, Axle, and Transmission components
  • Experience with various manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, injection molding, stamping, & forging
  • Experience working with global suppliers and managing quality across different regions and cultures
  • Knowledge of a foreign language
