Overview

The CDI Auditor will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of clinical documentation in pediatric patient medical records. The CDI Auditor will review medical records in EPIC, validate diagnoses and procedures against clinical evidence, and assess queries for compliance with AHIMA/ACDIS guidelines. By auditing concurrent, retrospective, and continued stay documentation, the CDI Auditor ensures proper workflows, identifies areas for improvement, and partners with physicians, CDSs, and coding teams to strengthen documentation practices.

Qualifications

  • RN required. CDIP or CCDS required.
  • Peds/NICU RN clinical bedside experience at a stand-alone children’s hospital OR a Level 4 children’s unit at a hospital required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of acute inpatient Clinical Documentation Improvement experience in a large tertiary trauma hospital required.
  • Experience with EPIC required.
  • Excellent observational, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, including good verbal and written communication required.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes a partnership between CDS, medical record coding, and physicians to improve documentation and coding integrity.
  • Provide guidance to the physicians, nursing, and ancillary staff on clinical documentation best practices.
  • Analyze medical record documentation and other references, such as MAR, Labs, Orders, etc. to clinically validate reportable diagnoses and procedures.
  • Identify viable working DRG documentation improvement opportunities and initiate concise and compliant queries.
  • Audit concurrent initial, continued stay, and retrospective charts with accurate CDS workflow data entry and scopes consistent with client work standards.
  • Query initiation, follow up, escalation, etc. aligned with client scope and work standards.
  • Adhere to AHIMA/ACDIS query compliance guidance and all Official ICD10 Coding Guidance.
  • Adhere to any client specific diagnosis clinical validity criteria.
  • Understand medical terminologies, procedures, and applicable laws to collect and evaluate medical documentation.

Schedule This is a remote, full-time, 40 hour per week position. General hours of work are Monday through Friday during regular business hours.
