Overview of the Position:

Speedcast delivers highly customizable, critical communication solutions for remote sites. The IP Architect role requires a hands-on collaborative approach between cross-functional engineering teams. The position will support the implementation of IP-based architectural standards, products and services, with direct involvement in technical delivery. The IP Architect reports directly to the Director of IP Architecture.

This technical role will collaborate within the IP Architecture team and cross-functional engineering groups while independently developing comprehensive frameworks and technical standards. Furthermore, the role will drive improvements and integrate appropriate technologies throughout a supported product lifecycle.

Role Definition:

  • Key Relationships:
    • Reports directly to the Director, IP Architecture (or designated delegate).
    • Assists in developing and implementing network architecture strategies and solutions in alignment with business objectives.
  • Architecture & Design:
    • Architect enterprise IP platform solutions and lead their implementation to ensure alignment with design specifications.
    • Define and document functional and non-functional requirements, then validate these through proof-of-concept implementation(s).
    • Develop network performance optimization strategies and reference architecture.
    • Develop security architectures and zero-trust design principles, overseeing their practical deployment.
    • Set architectural standards, technical guidelines, and create implementation methodologies.
    • Develop platform management strategies for the network infrastructure lifecycle, from design through decommissioning.
  • Standards & Governance:
    • Create comprehensive implementation guides, and operational documentation.
    • Support knowledge transfer sessions with implementation, operations, and support teams.
    • Mentor team members on architectural principles and their practical application.
    • Define monitoring architecture and observability standards for IP infrastructure.
    • Establish requirements for metrics, thresholds, network telemetry and performance metrics.
  • Leadership & Strategy:
    • Lead technical implementation of complex network architectures, serving as hands-on technical authority.
    • Conduct design reviews at key implementation milestones and validate deployments against architectural standards.
    • Serve as technical escalation point during critical deployments and transformations.
    • Partner with operations teams to ensure smooth transitions from project to production.
    • Define and document deployment methodologies and success criteria.

Core Requirements:

  • Batchelor’s degree in computer science, or related field.
  • 10+ years in IP engineering/network with some focus on design and architecture.
  • Proven track record architecting large-scale, mission-critical IP infrastructure.
  • Deep expertise in IP networking, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), and traffic management.
  • Strong knowledge of SD-WAN architecture.
  • Strong understanding of high availability, WAN optimization, and QoS policies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of network security principles.

Exceptional Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, or related field.
  • Cisco, AWS, or SD-WAN vendor certifications.
  • Experience with SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) architecture.
  • Supporting knowledge of 802.11, 5G/LTE/Satellite bearers for IP-based traffic flow(s).
