ASSOCIATE OIL AND GAS ENGINEER

The California Department of Conservation is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to public safety, environment, and economy. The Associate Oil and Gas Engineer will perform engineering work related to underground injection control and evaluate oil, gas, and geothermal projects.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform Underground Injection Control (UIC) and related engineering work within an area unit in CalGEM’s Northern District Orcutt office
  • Perform assignments that require a high degree of knowledge and skill in hydrocarbon and geothermal technology, team leadership, communication, data management, presentation and engineering work, including operations, production, and good oil field practice
  • Perform technical evaluation of proposed oil, gas, and geothermal projects, Class II UIC projects, and prepare permits documenting technical requirements for operations
  • Conduct complex studies of operations and reservoirs; make complex calculations, such as oil and gas reserve calculations; prepare and interpret complex technical data, maps, and statistics; and write reports on investigations
  • Monitor and investigate the legality and advisability of proposed operations, prepare technical and legal directives, and advise operators of preventative or corrective actions
  • Provide technical guidance to field engineering staff

Skills

  • Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment
  • If you are a current state employee, but do not have transfer eligibility or list eligibility, you will need to have taken and passed the examination for this classification in order to be hired for this position
  • This position requires a valid Driver's License
  • This position requires travel
