About This Role SpartanX is seeking a detail-oriented Market Research Specialist to support expansion efforts, operational planning, and market development across active and emerging markets. This role is responsible for conducting preliminary market research related to engineering requirements, permitting processes, utility interconnection standards, AHJ expectations, and overall operational feasibility within targeted markets. The ideal candidate is highly organized, research-driven, and capable of gathering and organizing complex information that supports operational decision-making and market expansion strategies. This position plays a critical role in helping SpartanX evaluate opportunities, reduce operational risk, and improve project scalability across multiple jurisdictions and utility territories. What You’ll Do

  • Conduct preliminary research on engineering, permitting, and utility interconnection requirements across targeted markets
  • Research AHJ processes, inspection standards, and operational requirements by jurisdiction
  • Gather and organize utility provider information, PTO requirements, net metering policies, and interconnection timelines
  • Analyze market conditions, operational barriers, and regional solar landscape trends
  • Maintain organized databases and documentation related to utility territories, permitting requirements, and market conditions
  • Support operations, permitting, engineering, and leadership teams with research findings and market intelligence
  • Identify potential operational challenges, permitting delays, or regulatory concerns before market entry
  • Track changes in utility policies, permitting standards, and regional solar requirements
  • Assist with operational planning and market expansion initiatives
  • Prepare reports, summaries, and research documentation for leadership review

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage large amounts of information accurately
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable navigating utility websites, permitting portals, regulatory documentation, and operational systems
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
  • Experience with spreadsheets, CRMs, and database management preferred
  • Ability to work in fast-paced operational environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in solar operations, permitting, engineering support, utility coordination, or market research preferred
  • Familiarity with utility interconnection processes and AHJ workflows
  • Experience researching regulatory or operational requirements across multiple markets
  • Strong Excel or data organization experience
  • Solar industry experience preferred but not required
