Position summary GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms, and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement. Position description Our Senior Staff Engineer works with our Staff and Sr. Engineers to innovate and build new systems, improve and enhance existing systems and identify new opportunities to apply your knowledge to solve critical problems. You will lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in their domain.

Responsibilities

Provide technical and thought leadership to the enterprise across multiple areas Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve complex problems Develop and execute technical software development strategy for various domains Ensure quality, usability, and performance of solutions Utilize languages such as Python, C# or other OO languages, SQL, NoSQL; work with Docker, Kubernetes, and Azure tooling Mentor and coach the engineering and product community Influence and educate leadership at all levels Share best practices and improve processes within and across teams Analyze cost and forecast, incorporating into business plans Determine resource requirements and measure outcomes to ensure results, while sponsoring continuous learning Qualifications Ability to design, run experiments, and influence engineering direction and product roadmaps Experience partnering with engineering teams and transitioning research to production Track record of publications in credible conferences and journals Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code Strong knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms Analytical problem-solving skills with quantitative approaches Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment Knowledge of developer tooling across the SDLC Fluency with modern languages such as C# and OO design Experience with microservices architecture and extensible REST APIs Experience designing architecture, patterns, reliability, and scalability DevOps concepts, cloud architecture, and Azure DevOps Experience with PowerShell scripting Experience with Azure Portal and monitoring tools Understanding of Azure services and security protocols (Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth) Experience with Azure networking Strong ability to assess architectures and propose improvements Experience 10+ years of professional software development in .NET (C# with OO design) 8+ years of architecture and design experience 6+ years in open-source frameworks 4+ years of experience with Azure, AWS, GCP or other cloud services Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience Annual Salary $115,000.00 - $260,000.00 The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Final offer depends on factors including scope, responsibilities, experience, education, location, and market conditions. GEICO may sponsor employment authorization for this position.
