Company: Bengal Engineers LLC Location: Remote Job Type: Part-Time / As-Needed Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience, licensure, and technical expertise About Bengal Engineers LLC Bengal Engineers LLC is a professional civil engineering and land surveying firm providing plan review, site/civil engineering, stormwater management, floodplain analysis, utility engineering, transportation engineering, structural engineering, inspection, permitting, and project management services for public and private sector clients. We are seeking experienced engineering professionals to support our plan review services on a part-time, remote basis. This position is ideal for retired agency reviewers, senior engineers, peer reviewers, or experienced consultants seeking flexible, well-compensated technical review opportunities. Position Summary The Plan Reviewer will review engineering plans, reports, calculations, specifications, and supporting documents to verify compliance with applicable federal, state, county, municipal, and agency requirements. Assignments may vary based on the candidate’s area of expertise. Areas of Review Expertise Candidates may support one or more of the following disciplines:
- Site and civil development plans
- Stormwater management and Environmental Site Design (ESD)
- Grading plans
- Erosion and sediment control plans
- Floodplain studies and hydrologic/hydraulic (H&H) analyses
- Drainage studies and storm drain system design
- Utility plans, water distribution systems, sewer systems, and pump stations
- Transportation, traffic, signing, pavement marking, signal, and maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans
- Wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects
- Constructability, value engineering, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reviews
- Electrical, instrumentation, controls, and SCADA systems for water and wastewater facilities
Key Responsibilities
- Perform technical reviews of engineering plans, reports, calculations, specifications, and design documents.
- Evaluate compliance with applicable codes, regulations, design manuals, and agency standards.
- Review hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, drainage analyses, stormwater management requirements, profiles, details, specifications, and cost estimates, as applicable.
- Prepare clear, concise, and professional written review comments.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and design teams.
- Participate in occasional virtual review meetings.
- Support permit reviews, peer reviews, QA/QC reviews, and constructability assessments.
- Provide practical and technically sound recommendations to resolve design and compliance issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Ten (10) or more years of relevant experience in civil engineering, municipal plan review, agency review, or consulting.
- Previous experience reviewing plans for county, municipal, state, or federal agencies is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., or other regional agency standards is a plus.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and consistently meet review deadlines.
