Role Overview – Data Engineering Manager (Part‑Time, Remote)

We are seeking a seasoned Data Engineering Manager to join our Quality Assurance team within arenaflex’s flagship gaming division. This part‑time, remote position offers a unique opportunity to shape the data pipelines that power the development of blockbuster titles such as Radiance, Forza, Horizon Wheels of War, and the arenaflex Relaxed Suite. You will partner closely with Data Scientists, Applied Researchers, and QA Specialists to design, implement, and maintain robust data ingestion, transformation, and validation frameworks that ensure the highest quality of data throughout the game development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable data pipelines that extract raw game telemetry, player behavior logs, and performance metrics from multiple sources.
  • Mentor a cross‑functional team of engineers on best practices for data quality, governance, and pipeline reliability.
  • Develop and enforce data validation standards, ensuring that ingested data conforms to schema definitions and business rules before downstream consumption.
  • Collaborate with product owners and studio leads to translate game design requirements into actionable data models and reporting structures.
  • Drive the adoption of automated testing frameworks for data pipelines, including unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests that safeguard against regressions.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively detect pipeline failures, data drift, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Guide the creation of self‑healing mechanisms that automatically remediate common data quality issues, reducing manual intervention.
  • Oversee data governance initiatives, ensuring compliance with internal policies, industry regulations, and privacy standards.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to stakeholders, translating complex data concepts into clear, actionable insights.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and recommend enhancements to the data architecture that align with arenaflex’s strategic goals.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience in data engineering, data science, or software development, with a focus on large‑scale data pipelines.
  • Proven track record of designing, building, and maintaining cloud‑based data platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) that handle high‑volume, high‑velocity data streams.
  • Hands‑on experience with data storage technologies such as relational databases, NoSQL stores, data lakes, and data warehouses.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Scala, or Java, and familiarity with SQL for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data modeling, schema design, and data transformation (ETL/ELT) processes.
  • Experience implementing data quality frameworks, including data profiling, validation, and cleansing techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and capable of thriving in a remote, part‑time work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, etc.).
  • Background in the gaming industry or experience working with game telemetry and player analytics.
  • Familiarity with big data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Flink, or Beam.
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines for data engineering workloads.
  • Experience with data governance tools and privacy compliance (GDPR, CCPA).
  • Prior leadership experience managing distributed, remote engineering teams.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect complex data problems and devise elegant, scalable solutions.
  • Collaboration: Strong teamwork ethos, fostering open communication across multidisciplinary groups.
  • Problem‑Solving: Proactive approach to identifying bottlenecks and implementing corrective actions.
  • Adaptability: Comfort with evolving priorities in a fast‑paced, innovative gaming environment.
  • Leadership: Coaching mindset that empowers team members to grow technically and professionally.
  • Attention to Detail: Commitment to data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across all pipelines.

  • Opportunities to lead high‑impact projects that influence the direction of flagship titles.
  • Cross‑departmental rotations that broaden your expertise beyond data engineering into product, design, and user research.
