What You’ll Do

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust data solutions that support our entire enterprise. Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborate with source data application teams and product owners to design, implement, and support analytics solutions that provide insights for better decision-making across all business units.
  • Develop and execute data migration and engineering solutions using Azure products and services, including Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Event Hub, Azure Stream Analytics, Azure Databricks, and traditional data warehouse tools.
  • Lead multiple aspects of the development lifecycle – From architecture and cloud engineering (infrastructure, networking, security, and deployment) through ingestion, data preparation, data modeling, testing, CI/CD pipelines, performance tuning, solutions deployment, usage monitoring, business intelligence, alerting, and ongoing support.
  • Provide technical leadership within a collaborative team environment while also working independently to drive projects forward.
  • Participate in a DevOps culture where teams fully own and support their products, ensuring reliability and performance.
  • Implement both batch and streaming data pipelines using modern cloud technologies to support real-time and near-real-time analytics requirements.
  • Drive improvement by establishing coding standards, best practices, and robust security and compliance protocols across all data initiatives.
  • Mentor colleagues on technical and domain-specific skills to create high-performing, multi-functional teams that excel in their respective areas.
  • Continuously innovate by exploring new technologies, methodologies, and approaches that can enhance our data capabilities and competitive advantage.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you must bring the following foundational skills and experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience and training.
  • Professional Experience: Minimum 3 years of programming solution development using agile and DevOps methodologies, working in a product-oriented environment that includes designing, developing, and implementing large-scale applications or data engineering solutions.
  • Data Analysis Expertise: Minimum 3 years of data analysis experience using SQL, with the ability to write complex queries, optimize database performance, and extract meaningful insights from large datasets.
  • Technical Proficiency in Programming: Strong skills in Python, Scala, Unix, and SQL for data processing and analysis.
  • Data Platform Experience: Hands-on experience with several of the following platforms: Teradata, Cassandra, MongoDB, Oracle, SQL Server, ADLS, or Snowflake for managing and processing data at scale.
  • Cloud Platform Expertise: Familiarity with Azure Data Explorer and solid understanding of cloud organization principles.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications will give you a significant advantage and demonstrate your readiness for senior-level responsibilities:

  • Advanced Experience: 3+ years of programming solution development using agile and DevOps practices in a product model that includes designing, developing, and implementing large-scale applications or data engineering solutions.
  • Extended Data Analysis: 3+ years of data investigation experience utilizing SQL with advanced query optimization and performance tuning capabilities.
  • Full-Stack Development: 3+ years of full-stack development experience, preferably within Azure environments.
  • Cloud Development Mastery: 3+ years of cloud development and data lake experience (preferably Microsoft Azure) including Azure EventHub, Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, ADX, ASA, Azure Databricks, Azure DevOps, Azure Mass Storage, Azure Data Lake, Azure Power Applications, and Power BI.
  • Industry Background: Prior experience in the transportation, aviation, or logistics industry, understanding the unique data challenges and opportunities in these sectors.

Technical Skills and Certifications

The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in:

  • Azure Technology Stack: Extensive experience with the Azure innovation stack for data management, data ingestion, capture, processing, curation, and creating utilization layers that power business intelligence.
  • Cloud Advisory: Expertise in providing functional guidance within the Azure Local cloud services ecosystem, ensuring best-in-class solutions for complex business requirements.
  • Certifications (Preferred): Azure Improvement Track Certification and Scala Confirmation, demonstrating commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Development Tools: Proficiency with CI/CD tools including GitHub, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, and Terraform for automated deployment and infrastructure management.
  • Business Intelligence Tools: Experience with BI analysis tool stacks such as Cognos, Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Denodo, and Grafana for creating compelling data visualizations and dashboards.
  • Data Warehousing: Knowledge of data warehousing tools including DataStage and Informatica for enterprise data integration.
  • Data Governance and Compliance: Familiarity with data management and protection tools including Informatica Axon and EDC, BigID for ensuring data quality, security, and regulatory compliance.
