Why This Role Matters

As a Lead DevOps Engineer at arenaflex, you will be the technical champion for our Kubernetes‑based platforms, driving reliability, security, and automation across our cloud‑native services. This part‑time, remote position offers a unique blend of strategic influence and hands‑on engineering, allowing you to shape the future of our infrastructure while maintaining a flexible work‑life balance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain highly available Kubernetes clusters on OpenShift, VMware Tanzu, and Farmer platforms, adhering to best‑practice guidelines.
  • Serve as the subject‑matter expert for “Kubernetes as a Service,” providing guidance to internal stakeholders on on‑demand cluster provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management.
  • Develop and enforce GitOps policies using tools such as ArgoCD and Jenkins to automate cluster provisioning, application deployment, and day‑2 operations.
  • Collaborate with the TechOps team to deliver IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions for the ISG Development groups, ensuring 24x7 availability of core platforms.
  • Implement and audit security controls, disaster‑recovery plans, and compliance frameworks across all Kubernetes environments.
  • Lead incident response and root‑cause analysis for platform‑related issues, providing clear documentation and remediation steps.
  • Automate Linux system administration tasks on physical and virtual servers, including patch management, configuration drift detection, and performance tuning.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and DevOps best practices.
  • Document platform architecture, operational procedures, and service level objectives to support transparent communication with business partners.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience managing production‑grade Kubernetes clusters (OpenShift, Tanzu, or similar).
  • Strong background in Linux system administration on both bare‑metal and virtualized environments.
  • Proficiency with GitOps workflows, including ArgoCD, Jenkins, and CI/CD pipeline design.
  • Solid understanding of container networking, storage, and security (e.g., Calico, CNI plugins, RBAC, PodSecurityPolicies).
  • Experience with infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or AWX, and scripting languages like Python, Bash, or YAML.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot disaster‑recovery solutions (e.g., Velero, Restic).
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK) and incident‑management platforms (ServiceNow, Jira).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Red Hat OpenShift certifications (e.g., Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration).
  • Kubernetes certifications such as CKA, CKAD, or CKS.
  • Experience with VMware Tanzu, Rancher, or other enterprise Kubernetes distributions.
  • Knowledge of service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd) and API gateways (NGINX, HAProxy, ALB).
  • Background in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid‑cloud networking.
  • Exposure to ServiceNow, Jira, or other ITSM tools for change and incident management.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Leadership: Ability to influence architecture decisions and drive platform standards across distributed teams.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical mindset to diagnose complex system issues and implement sustainable fixes.
  • Communication: Clear, concise documentation and the ability to convey technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Proven track record of working effectively in cross‑functional, remote environments.
  • Automation‑First Mentality: Passion for reducing manual toil through scripting, CI/CD pipelines, and self‑service tooling.
  • Security Awareness: Commitment to embedding security best practices throughout the platform lifecycle.

  • Mentorship from senior architects and industry experts.
  • Funding for certifications (e.g., Red Hat, CNCF) and continuous‑learning platforms.
  • Opportunities to lead high‑visibility projects that directly impact global customers.
  • Cross‑team rotations to broaden expertise in cloud, networking, and security domains.
  • Regular tech talks, hackathons, and internal conferences to showcase innovative solutions.
