Position Overview

arenaflex is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to join the Board, Interaction and Optics Designing group. This role sits at the intersection of mechanical engineering, optics, and high‑volume manufacturing, contributing to the creation of next‑generation devices that define the market. The successful candidate will lead the design, development, and integration of mechanical systems and sub‑assemblies for display, sensing, and camera modules across a broad portfolio of arenaflex products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end‑to‑end mechanical design of complex opto‑mechanical systems, from concept through production release.
  • Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams—including product design, optics, electrical, software, and manufacturing—to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components.
  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models and drawings using NX, SolidWorks, or Creo, adhering to GD&T standards and internal design guidelines.
  • Perform structural analysis (FEA), tolerance stack‑up, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and root‑cause investigations to validate design robustness.
  • Define and document manufacturing processes, assembly techniques, and quality inspection methods for high‑volume production environments.
  • Drive design for manufacturability (DFM) initiatives, optimizing parts for cost, reliability, and ease of assembly.
  • Lead prototype builds, mechanical testing, and validation activities, iterating designs based on test results and stakeholder feedback.
  • Maintain and evolve standard operating procedures (SOPs), best‑practice libraries, and design knowledge bases.
  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence within the team.
  • Contribute to strategic roadmap discussions, providing insight on emerging mechanical technologies and industry trends.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 7 years of hands‑on experience in mechanical system design, including experience with equipment, fixtures, mechatronics, and hardware integration.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (NX, SolidWorks, Creo) and a strong command of GD&T principles.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting FEA, tolerance analysis, failure analysis, and root‑cause investigations.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes such as precision machining, injection molding, metal stamping, and surface treatment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proven track record of delivering mechanical designs that meet stringent performance, reliability, and cost targets in high‑volume production.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in hardware development for high‑volume consumer electronics manufacturing.
  • Background in opto‑mechanical design, including camera mounts, kinematic mounts, and optical system integration.
  • Hands‑on experience designing custom hardware for consumer devices, such as PCB, FPC, and connector assemblies.
  • Familiarity with clean‑room design considerations and low‑contamination manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of machine vision systems, optical alignment, and mechanical testing methodologies.
  • Programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for automation of design validation and data analysis.
  • Experience with robotics integration and automation of assembly lines.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to dissect complex problems, perform rigorous analysis, and develop data‑driven solutions.
  • Collaboration: Strong team player who thrives in multidisciplinary environments and builds productive relationships across functions.
  • Innovation: Creative mindset that seeks novel approaches to mechanical challenges while balancing practicality and manufacturability.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to documentation, drawing standards, and quality control.
  • Project Management: Capability to manage multiple concurrent projects, prioritize tasks, and meet critical milestones.
  • Leadership: Experience guiding junior engineers, providing constructive feedback, and fostering a culture of excellence.
