ANALYST I

The California Department of Social Services is seeking motivated analysts to join the Budget Bureau, providing critical fiscal support to departmental programs. This role involves the development and administration of the Governor’s Budget, ensuring programs have the necessary fiscal resources to deliver essential services statewide.

Responsibilities

• Provide critical fiscal support to departmental programs
• Play a key role in the development and administration of the Governor’s Budget
• Manage and validate complex financial data
• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of fiscal documents
• Document findings clearly and comprehensively to support informed fiscal decision-making
• Present financial information to program staff, management, and other stakeholders
• Use tools such as Excel and PowerPoint to convey complex fiscal concepts

Skills

• Awareness of financial management skills, including experience working with multiple funding sources, planning and monitoring expenditures, and preparing accurate fiscal reports and analytical tools
• Ability to manage and validate complex financial data, ensure the accuracy and completeness of fiscal documents, and maintain high standards of analytical precision
• Awareness of/ability to research financial resource availability by reviewing historical data, legislative changes, budget documents, and state and federal guidance
• Ability to document findings clearly and comprehensively to support informed fiscal decision-making
• Strong communication skills and the ability to present financial information to program staff, management, and other stakeholders
• Proficiency in using tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and written reports to convey complex fiscal concepts in a clear and organized manner
• Completed employment history on the application form (STD 678)
• If meeting minimum qualifications with education, unofficial transcripts for verification must be included
