With a massive, ever‑growing data ecosystem, arenaflex empowers its teams to turn raw information into actionable insights that drive strategic decisions, improve operational efficiency, and create delightful customer experiences worldwide. As a technology‑first organization, arenaflex invests heavily in talent, continuous learning, and a collaborative culture that celebrates curiosity, inclusion, and impact.

Role Overview – Senior Data Engineer (Remote)

We are seeking a highly motivated, technically proficient Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Ventures team. In this advanced data‑entry role, you will design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines that ingest, transform, and deliver high‑quality data to downstream analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders. Your work will directly influence the strategic direction of arenaflex’s retail operations, helping the company unlock new revenue streams, reduce costs, and deliver personalized experiences to customers at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Pipeline Development: Architect, implement, and optimize end‑to‑end data pipelines using modern big‑data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Flink) to move terabytes of raw data into curated, analytics‑ready data lakes and warehouses.
  • Data Modeling & Architecture: Design logical and physical data models, including star and snowflake schemas, data vault structures, and dimensional models that support both batch and real‑time analytics.
  • Data Quality & Governance: Establish automated data quality checks, lineage tracking, and metadata management processes to ensure data integrity, compliance, and traceability across the enterprise.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: Partner closely with data analysts, data scientists, product managers, and business partners to translate complex business problems into scalable data solutions.
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization: Continuously monitor pipeline performance, identify bottlenecks, and apply best‑practice tuning techniques to achieve sub‑second latency where required.
  • Code Quality & Testing: Write clean, maintainable, and well‑documented code; develop unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests; and enforce coding standards through peer reviews and automated CI/CD pipelines.
  • Technology Evaluation & Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging data technologies (e.g., cloud‑native data warehouses, streaming platforms) and recommend strategic adoption to keep arenaflex at the forefront of data engineering.
  • Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing: Guide junior engineers, conduct technical workshops, and contribute to internal knowledge bases to foster a culture of continuous learning.
  • Documentation & Training: Produce comprehensive documentation for data pipelines, data models, and operational procedures; deliver training sessions to end‑users and cross‑functional teams.
  • Business Impact Analysis: Quantify the financial and operational impact of data initiatives, creating business cases that highlight ROI, cost savings, and strategic advantage.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience designing and operating large‑scale data pipelines in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Scala, Python, Java, or PySpark.
  • Deep understanding of distributed computing platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, or Azure, with hands‑on experience deploying Spark or Hadoop clusters.
  • Strong background in relational databases (SQL) and experience with data warehousing solutions (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift).
  • Demonstrated ability to implement data quality frameworks, data lineage tools, and metadata management practices.
  • Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Automic, or StreamSets to schedule and monitor workflows.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills, with a track record of translating ambiguous business requirements into concrete technical designs.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to convey complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

  • Master’s degree or advanced certifications in data engineering, cloud architecture, or big‑data technologies.
  • Hands‑on experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI).
  • Familiarity with machine‑learning pipelines and feature‑store concepts.
  • Knowledge of data security best practices, GDPR, CCPA, and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience working in a remote‑first, globally distributed team.
  • Passion for mentoring, community building, and contributing to open‑source projects.

Core Competencies & Personal Attributes

  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to dissect large, complex data sets and uncover hidden patterns that drive business value.
  • Customer‑Centric Focus: Understanding of how data solutions impact end‑users and a commitment to delivering seamless experiences.
  • Collaboration: Proven track record of working effectively across multidisciplinary teams, fostering trust and shared ownership.
  • Adaptability: Comfort with rapid change, evolving priorities, and emerging technologies in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Integrity & Ethics: Commitment to data privacy, security, and ethical use of information.
