Technical Intern - Software Engineer

About the position As a Ground Software Intern at BAE Systems, you will participate in the LEAP Internship Program, gaining practical industry experience over a 10-week period. This role involves working with a team of engineers to develop and modify software for satellite command and control, mission planning, and data analysis systems. You will engage in various projects, collaborate with mentors, and have opportunities for future employment while contributing to innovative technologies in the space and defense sectors. Responsibilities • Work with customer and team members to understand project requirements and scope. , • Provide unique perspectives and ideas as part of a team of engineers. , • Take ownership of project performance while working toward larger goals. , • Participate in intern-specific company activities. , • Develop/modify software in space, avionics, and tactical domains for satellite systems. , • Perform full software life cycle functions including requirements, architecture, design, code, test, integration, and documentation. , • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. , • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department and the company. , • Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive work environment. , • Perform other duties as necessary. Requirements • Must have completed sophomore or junior year and be enrolled in a degree program for fall 2025. , • Degree must be from an accredited university or college. , • Currently pursuing a BS degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. , • Experience delivering high-reliability software in an agile, team-based environment with a strong CI/CD workflow. , • Excellent technical writing and team skills. , • Experience programming in languages such as Java, C++, Ruby, or Python. Nice-to-haves • Cloud development using AWS, Lambda, Docker, and Kubernetes. , • Web and REST service development using Spring, Jersey, Flask, CherryPy, or Ruby on Rails. , • Front-end and UX development using JavaScript, Angular, React, JavaFX, Python, or Qt. , • Back-end development using SQL and NoSQL databases, and JPA/ORM.
