Accounting Technician

About the position The Accounting Technician position at the US Air Education and Training Command involves performing a comprehensive range of accounting duties using double-entry accrual accounting methods. The role is essential for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting regulations. The technician will be responsible for classifying and verifying accounting documents, maintaining bookkeeping journals, and reconciling accounts, contributing to the overall financial integrity of the organization. Responsibilities • Perform a full range of accounting duties using double-entry accrual accounting methods. , • Classify and verify a wide variety of accounting documents to ensure mathematical correctness and completeness of information. , • Maintain double-entry bookkeeping journals and subsidiary ledgers, posting entries to establish accounts. , • Prepare monthly balances, reconcile accounts, and transcribe to the general ledger for account closeout. , • Trace discrepancies to posting documents and compute operational expenses for accounting services provided. , • Prepare reports including profit and loss statements and miscellaneous financial reporting data. , • Perform other related duties as assigned. Requirements • Must have at least 3 years of experience in accounting or related fields. , • Comprehensive knowledge of fund accounting methods, procedures, and techniques. , • Ability to prepare financial settlements and reports. , • Knowledge of regulations and guides sufficient to interpret and apply them in various accounting situations. , • Ability to read and understand budgets, and income/expense reports. , • Critical thinking skills to interpret policies and procedures and apply them to daily activities. , • Skilled in time management and written/verbal communication. Nice-to-haves • Experience with federal accounting systems and regulations. , • Familiarity with financial software and tools.
