We're building culture-driven content and we're looking for a YouTube Retention Strategist to join the mission. The Role We're in search of a highly creative and analytical YouTube Retention Strategist with exceptional storytelling and writing chops—someone who lives and breathes the YouTube algorithm. In this role, you’ll craft, write, and help produce high-retention video content for multiple brands and channels. You’ll work closely with our internal team of editors, videographers, social media strategists, and brand managers to create engaging, thumb-stopping content that grows our audience, keeps viewers watching, and ultimately converts views into loyal fans and customers. We’re looking for someone that obsesses over everything YouTube. The thumbnail, the music, the length, the time of day to post, the comments, the engagement, the audience, and the rate of growth. This role is based full-time in our El Segundo office, where you’ll be plugged into our creative environment, working across multiple verticals including toys, wellness, events, and personal branding.

Responsibilities

Lead the YouTube content strategy across multiple brands and verticals. Research competitive channels, trends, formats, hooks, thumbnails, and titles to develop retention-driven video concepts. Write compelling video scripts, punchy intros, and viral hooks that keep audiences watching past the 30-second mark. Collaborate with videographers, editors, and marketing teams to bring videos to life with a high standard of storytelling, pacing, and brand alignment. Analyze audience retention graphs, click-through rates, and watch time to optimize future content. Develop both long-form and short-form content, from unboxings and educational content to founder-led brand storytelling and comedy-driven narratives. Manage a content calendar that balances brand objectives with algorithm-friendly consistency. Stay ahead of YouTube algorithm changes and retention trends to keep us competitive and growing. Delegate and lead colleagues with insights and feedback around music choices, thumbnails and more. What We're Looking For 3–5+ years of proven experience growing YouTube channels, preferably across multiple verticals or brands. Expert knowledge of YouTube analytics, algorithm behavior, retention tactics, and content formatting. Strong scriptwriting skills with an understanding of pacing, hook development, and retention structure. A background in video production or experience working alongside production/editing teams. A strategic thinker and storyteller who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. A passion for YouTube culture, emerging creators, and digital storytelling formats. Bonus if you have experience working with consumer brands, kids’ content, or wellness products. Perks & Culture Competitive salary: $80K–$120K depending on experience Creative, entrepreneurial, dynamic environment with big ambitions Access to emerging and established brands in the toy, wellness, and creator economy Direct collaboration with a high-energy, founder-led team Dive into our existing channels to learn more: Youtube @abacusbrands IG @steverad TT @backdrop_com How to Apply Send us your resume, portfolio, and links to YouTube channels or videos you've helped develop, grow, or write for.
