GDIT manages the scientific peer review of applications submitted to the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). CPRIT was established to expedite innovation in cancer research and to enhance the potential for a medical or scientific breakthrough in the prevention of cancer and cures for cancer, to attract, create, or expand research capabilities of institutions of higher education and other public or private entities, to promote a substantial increase in cancer research and in the creation of high-quality new jobs in this state, and to develop and implement the “Texas Cancer Plan”.At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a Technical Editor Senior you will help ensure today is safe and tomorrow is smarter. Our work depends on a Technical Editor Senior joining our team to review and edit material for punctuation, grammar, and content. The Senior editor will primarily review, edit, and produce Requests for Applications (RFAs), Instructions for Applicants (IFAs) and summary statements resulting from the scientific peer review process. Senior editors may edit a variety of documents for all 3 of CPRIT’s programs for accuracy and correctness of language and style using highly defined procedures and formats. This is a part-time, on-call, as-needed position. Assignments will be delegated as needed and based on program demand. This position will allow you to work from your home. Candidates can be located anywhere across the United States.HOW A TECHNICAL EDITOR SENIOR WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
● Checks basic facts and copyedits documents according to established guidelines. Applies accurate and consistent spelling, grammar, format, and overall cohesiveness to document text.
● Edits and performs editorial query review (EQR) editing on previously edited documents and other written materials.
● Ensures documents meet editorial and client specifications and adhere to standards for quality, clarity, presentation, and style.
● Reviews content for completeness, accuracy, and correctness of language use and revises materials to meet predetermined standards of style and format. Looks for inconsistencies of thought, development, or organization.
● Tracks workflow status of assigned programs for progress and timely completion.● Communicates and collaborates with Scientific Review Managers and Tasks Leads to address workflow, concatenation and technical issues; relays agreed upon resolutions to other members of the editorial team.
● Maintains toolkits of current processes, procedures, and style guidelines as directed.WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
- MA/MS (or equivalent experience) preferably in English, Journalism, or a related field
- Required Experience: 10+ years of experience as a Senior or EQR editor
- Required skill: Experience in scientific/medical editing/writing
- Required Skills and Abilities: Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Required Technical Skills: Intermediate level MS 365 skills, particularly MS Word & Outlook.
- Experience editing using the AMA Manual of Style and familiarity with other styles such as APA
- 10+ years of experience editing summary statements resulting from the scientific peer review process
- Knowledge of the peer review and/or grants management process
- Strong organizational skills
- Attention to detail
