Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm - Work may occur outside of these hours. About the Role: The Regional General Adjuster - Property is a senior-level role responsible for leading the resolution of the most complex, high-exposure property claims across our operating territory. Working remotely with frequent travel, this position plays a key part in managing severe losses-often exceeding $500,000-and may involve coverage disputes, litigation, or structural rebuilds. The RGA serves as a subject matter expert for claims strategy, coverage interpretation, and vendor oversight, and frequently collaborates with senior leaders, attorneys, reinsurers, and field partners. What You'll Do:

  • Manage a caseload of complex and high-value property claims with minimal supervision.
  • Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve claims in accordance with legal and contractual obligations.
  • Develop and implement claim strategies in collaboration with leadership and peers.
  • Conduct or lead field investigations for large losses, structural failures, or high-severity events.
  • Direct the use of vendors, independent adjusters, and forensic experts with a focus on cost-efficiency and outcomes.
  • Communicate regularly with insureds, agents, attorneys (both plaintiff and defense), and reinsurers.
  • Establish and monitor appropriate reserves and identify salvage or subrogation opportunities.
  • Participate in litigation oversight and collaborate with internal legal resources or panel counsel.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to peers and less experienced adjusters.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Support special projects, participate in committees, and provide insight into claims trends.
  • Represent Hastings in depositions, hearings, or court appearances, as needed.

Additional Role Highlights:

  • Serves as a subject matter expert on large property loss and claim handling best practices.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in handling files with significant financial exposure.
  • Reports into the Large Loss Claim Supervisor and collaborates across Claims, Underwriting, Sales, and Loss Control.
  • Requires frequent travel, including overnights, throughout our five-state operation region (IL,IN,OH,MI,WI).

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work and insurance experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive claim handling experience with a focus on large complex property losses.
  • Expertise in building construction, repair methods, and structural estimating.
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Professional designation (AIC, CPCU, SCLA) preferred or in progress.
  • Experience leading or mentoring claim professionals is preferred.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and exercise sound, independent judgment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to influence and advise.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and claim management systems.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required.
