Job Summary: Lead the development and implementation of advanced analytics models, solutions and data analysis and predictive modeling efforts. Use expertise in statistics, machine learning, and analytical approaches to generate actionable insights. Apply advanced knowledge in statistics, machine learning, and programming languages to discover insights, solve complex business challenges and build predictive models. This position is not remote and is in office on NSWC Indian Head. Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or related field
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience as a Data Scientist
  • Experience supporting Naval Surface Warfare Center activities preferred
  • Top Secret Clearance required

Essential Duties:

  • Lead data mining and collection procedures
  • Ensure data quality and integrity
  • Interpret and analyze data problems
  • Conceive, plan and prioritize data projects
  • Build analytic systems and predictive models
  • Test performance of data-driven products
  • Visualize data and create reports
  • Experiment with new models and techniques
  • Align data projects with organizational goals
  • Lead development and implementation of predictive models and machine learning algorithms
  • Design and deploy data-driven solutions to drive business improvement and outcomes
  • Assess effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques
  • Implement new statistical or other mathematical methodologies as needed for specific models or analysis
  • Develop algorithms to analyze large data sets and provide insights
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and devise possible solutions
  • Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources
  • Design and build data platforms for analysis and experimentation
  • Mentor junior data scientists and provide expert advice to team members
  • Present and visualize data insights to stakeholders in a comprehensible manner

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding and practical experience with statistical analysis, predictive modeling, machine learning, data mining concepts, and a broad knowledge of data analysis tools.
  • Competence in coding languages such as Python, R, Java, or SQL, and familiarity with big data tools like Hadoop, Spark, or Hive.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify patterns and trends within data, formulate hypotheses, and devise predictive models.
  • Problem-solving skills to efficiently diagnose, troubleshoot, and address complex data-related challenges and issues.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts and findings in a clear, concise manner to non-technical stakeholders, and to collaborate effectively with data engineers, data analysts, and other team members.
  • Attention to detail in order to maintain high levels of data quality and reliability.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, or Looker for creating dashboards and reports.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.

The projected salary range for this position is $110,000-$160,000 and is based on experience and contractual requirements. However, this is not a guarantee of salary.
